If body damage has you wondering whether anyone will take your car, you’re in the right place. With Wheel Give Back in Norfolk, you can still donate a car with dents, rust, cracked glass, accident damage, or storm damage. We partner with Heritage for the Blind, which accepts vehicles in any cosmetic condition. Your car doesn’t have to run and you don’t need to spend a dollar on repairs. We’ll arrange free towing anywhere in Hampton Roads—from Ghent, Ocean View, and Downtown Norfolk to Chesapeake, Virginia Beach, Portsmouth, and beyond.
Here’s how it really works in Virginia. Once you submit your donation, a licensed towing partner picks up your vehicle at no cost—driveway, street, or repair shop. It’s then sold as-is. The actual sale price, not how the car looks, determines the value of your tax deduction. Heavier damage usually means a lower sale price, but you’ll still receive a guaranteed minimum tax receipt of $500. If it sells for more, your deduction can be higher, documented on IRS Form 1098‑C. Either way, you skip the hassle of repairs or private buyers and turn that problem vehicle into support for people who are blind or visually impaired through Heritage for the Blind.
How to get your free pickup scheduled
1. Tell us about your damaged vehicle
Share a quick description of your car’s body issues—dents, rust, cracked windshield, storm or accident damage—and where it’s located in the Norfolk area. It’s okay if it doesn’t run. The more accurate you are about its condition, the smoother pickup and processing will be and the better we can plan the right tow truck for your situation.
2. Schedule free towing anywhere in Hampton Roads
We arrange a free tow at a time that works for you, whether your car is parked at home in Larchmont, in an apartment lot in Ocean View, at a shop in Virginia Beach, or sitting in a driveway in Chesapeake. You don’t have to make the car driveable or do any cosmetic work—our towing partners handle damaged, non-running, and unsafe vehicles every day.
3. We pick up your car as-is, no repairs needed
On pickup day, just have the keys and title ready if you have them. The driver will load your damaged vehicle safely, even with broken glass or bent body panels. There’s no inspection you have to “pass.” You won’t be asked to fix dents, replace a windshield, or address rust. Once it’s on the truck, your job is essentially done.
4. Your vehicle is sold, even with heavy body damage
After towing, your car is sold as-is through the most appropriate channel—auction, recycler, or buyer who specializes in damaged vehicles. Cosmetic and structural issues may lower what it sells for, but they do not disqualify it. The net sale proceeds then go to Heritage for the Blind, supporting services for people who are blind or visually impaired nationwide.
5. Receive your $500+ tax receipt
You receive a written tax receipt documenting your donation. You’re guaranteed at least a $500 receipt, even if your damaged car sells for less. If it sells for more than $500, you’ll receive documentation of the actual sale price, and donations above $500 use IRS Form 1098‑C. You can then talk with your tax professional about claiming your deduction.
Potential complications to watch for
Missing or problematic title for a damaged car
Tip: If your vehicle has been sitting damaged for a while, the title may be lost or in a different name. In Virginia, this can slow down the paperwork. Gather any ownership documents you have, and let us know upfront if the title is missing or not in your name so we can explain what’s possible before scheduling the tow.
Severely unsafe location or blocked access
Tip: Totaled or storm-damaged vehicles sometimes end up wedged against structures, down embankments, or blocked in by other cars. Towing is still usually possible, but it may require special equipment or timing. When you describe your Norfolk or Hampton Roads location, mention any access issues so the tow company can bring the right truck and avoid rescheduling.
Personal items left in a wrecked or storm car
Tip: It’s easy to forget what’s inside a car that’s been sitting damaged for months. Before pickup, check under seats, in the trunk, and glove box for paperwork, plates, and valuables. Once the vehicle leaves your property, it’s difficult to recover personal items because it may move quickly through auctions or recyclers.
Unpaid storage or impound fees
Tip: If your accident-damaged car is in a storage lot or impound yard around Norfolk, Portsmouth, or Virginia Beach, the facility may charge daily fees. We can still pick up from those locations, but you’re usually responsible for any outstanding charges. Call the lot first to understand what’s owed so there are no surprises at pickup time.
